Keep raising the bar and soon only the big players can ever hope to step over that bar. Make it impossible for low to mid level players to advance in this game as far as the god-like top tier players, then forget about an expanding new player base. Nobody likes a hopeless quest.

New gear is just bigger better gear
new monsters are just bigger tougher monsters.
new spells are just bigger more powerful spells.
I was thinking something really new would be cool.
I mean imagine if a poison swamp was added... and to the naked eye it looked like an empty area.. but step on the wrong square and man-eating plants kill you.
Of course each time they kill you they also die and respawn in a new area like other monsters.
Get through the maze of plants and there are two exits... one brings you back to the entrance to the swamp (your screwed...lol)
The other brings you to another area with academies to create your own spells and name them.. blacksmiths to create your own gear... and alchemist to create potions which poison enemies..
now would that be new?? I think so.
Maybe a lot of programing.. but surely would be exciting.
Maybe we will see something like it on v2.
